The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, opened it doors in January of 2010. It was designed by the esteemed Swiss architect Mario Botta and in 2014, the museum paid tribute to the then 71 year-old publishing this sprawling monogram. Botta has been hailed for his use of traditional materials, his sculptural prowess, and his comprehension of ecological and topographical conditions. This catalog, published on the occasion of the exhibition “Architecture and Memory” focuses on four types of structures: libraries, museums, theaters, and sacred spaces (i.e religious buildings). The book includes essays, a biography, and a list of works/personal exhibitions.
